Loving the plan thus far, and a pre-emptive THANK YOU to Shad for going to the trouble of sorting out a means for us to give it a go.
Personally, I like the fantasy setting more than modern day settings (prefer writing about it as well, so this could prove interesting...)
Anyways... Shall be picking up a fresh copy of NWN 1 in a day or two, then all systems go as far as I'm concerned. Available pretty much any night, so happy to commit a day that works for everyone else.

Just a warning, you may have to do some web searching to get past the graphics incompatibilities.
Right, what classes are people thinking of bringing? I'm thinking of taking a mage or a sorcerer, for the first time ever.
Discuss.

Rogue for me I think.
Traps? Ha! I laugh in the face of spikey things in the floor and darts in the walls.
Locks? Mere child's play
All the really shiny things? What shiny things? Didn't see anything further down this tunnel, we should go home. Oh, and can someone lend a hand with this really heavy but empty sack I found please? Not sure I'll be able to haul it all the way home alone...

ranger! >.> <.< if only cause it's the only one I seem to be competent with in my several runs through the tutorial/first bit of chapter 1. Managed to get it co-operating with teh graphics card too! Also, if anyone wants to translate Shad's post regarding character creation into really-dumb language, that'd be appreciated, cause it went way over my head.

Right. What did Shad mean...
When you create a character in NWN two things depend on your stats. Skills (based on your INT stat) and Feats (if your stats aren't high enough, there are some feats that are simply unavailable to you, like Ambidexterity needing Dex 13+)
The GM can modify characters in game. Muahahahahaha... ©Evil Laugh Enterprises 2008. If you should have a character with (say) STR 14, DEX 13, CON 16, INT 18, WIS 10, CHA 12, and the Power Attack Feat (no idea why, but say you do) you CANNOT build this character from the word go. Because you're getting an INT of 18, you need a STR of 13+ to get the feat, your other stats will lose out. So, you would set the INT correctly, to ensure you get the right number of skill points, and the STR correctly, to ensure that you can take the feat. The rest will be lower than they should be but I can bump them up once I see your character in-game. If your INT was only 16 and I bumped it to 18 you would miss out on the lovely extra 4 skill points at 1st level.
So, in short, put your INT to whatever it should be, and other stats to at least the minimum needed to allow you to have any feats you want at 1st Level, and we'll worry about the rest at a later point.

Okay, update...
We have a working version of NWN on 'puter! Yay!!
Working means it runs and isn't black screening, it is, however, flickering and rubber banding EVERYTHING (yes, the entire map, npc's my toon, speech boxes, the lot)
Shall try to get this sorted asap, but no luck thus far (not tried the whole killing off drivers and going back to old ones yet, bit nervous about screwing the whole thing up)
Might have to try drastic measures soon though, drag the old machine back downstairs and find someplace to put it

No idea if this'll help, but I managed to solve gfx issues by disabling the 'Environment mapping on creatures' option in the advance video settings.
I only got invisible characters though... not the extreme weirdness everyone else is talking about.
not sure if the card I'm running makes a difference. I'm running an ATi X1950 Pro with the 7.12 Catalyst drivers. Did try to run in x-fire, but it makes my power suply SCREAM!!!

I must be lucky - all I get is some tearing down the left side of my screen, which might well be caused by my shoddy monitor connection (and the fact that NWN was never designed to run on a 22" widescreen).
Work continues apace to prep myself for this - I can now get unique items into the game with very little effort (though some is still required, so I'll need to do this between sessions), and I am working on hacking the game sufficiently to enable me to get my grubby little mits on the NPCs I'll be needing for my plot (I don't want to use the in-game ones or generic characters).
For anyone interested in having a little look around, and maybe doing a tiny bit of character intro, I'll be online tonight, though I want to spend a little time building some important bits (like the right GM character while I muddle through getting my NPCs sorted out...). I will have a server up and running by 6.45. Server will be called "The FA". Password will follow in PMs.

Dibs on Monk.
I'll probably need a hand with stats aswell, as numbers always get me.
Also, how necessery are the expansion packs? If we need them, I'll have to go search town for them.

Since we're starting with the core campaign, not hugely, Junior. Though my slightly hackeded copy of the tutorial requires both to run (however further chapters don't). And if I manage to get my hands on editable copies of the other chapters of the campaign, the answer is: essential.

Well.. managed to see Shad's server on the server list (in the Role-Play section.. just in case anyone gets lost looking in the wrong place)
No password.. so couldn't get in.
Was wondering.. is there any restriction on characters we're allowed to play? I'm leaning towards something in the realms of 'Hit them til they stop moving' type... but have some possible characters that might be disallowed.
Also.. I'd avoid the PRC methinks. They seem to require further modification to the modules, so not sure it's compatible with whatever Shad's planning. That and a lot of the included kits seem very munchkin-like.
oh.. and Vie.. you realise you can't start as a Weapons-master, right? You gotta earn that title...
