(( Okie dokie, first up, a quick OOC note. 351 (the FA's sentient AI and resident pain in the ass) will pester all FA members until the read the following notice as it's important, that way everyone hears the news ASAP. Sucks being hassled by a computer but them's the breaks ))
To the FA membership (Paragon branch)
During my time as a member of the FA certain things have been made abundantly clear to me, and now, as the recently elected leader, I feel it's about time I acted on my observations and made a few changes which I feel will be for the benefit of us all as a team and more importantly as friends.
The first matter I wish to address is the internal ranking system we currently employ, and it's blatant redundancy. Recent events have shown, as they have in the past, that when obstacles arise, the FA works together without the need for orders to be issued or instructions given from members of higher ranks. Each member has their own areas of expertise where their knowledge surpasses that of the others, and when we work together to solve our problems each members voice is heard equally, a new members thoughts and views just as valid as those of older and more 'important' members (myself included)
For this reason, the current system of a trial period followed by full membership, with the possibility of a rise to Consul status, is being removed. In it's place will be the single rank of a Member, with two possible sub-categories (though they shall be explained more fully in a few moments).
I'll also be placing Jane and Sam as my Advisors, they were selected by the membership (myself included) as possible replacements for Akkarin as the FA's leader just as I was. Who better to judge my decisions than the ones who would have been making them instead of me?
Now then, I'd like to explain the other important revision to be made. Our recruitment system.
In the past recruitment has been simply a matter of issuing newer members with a team communicator, a brief explanation on the workings of it (if the newbie was lucky) and then leaving them to their own devices. For the majority of cases this has worked out fine, but it can and has caused problems.
So a new system has been discussed and decided upon which I hope will not only increase the strength of the FA as a team, but bring its membership closer together as a group of friends. I mentioned that there would be two sub-categories for the rest of the members, and these are to be Mentors and Understudy's, and it's all really rather simple.
Should any member feel that someone they meet would be a valuable addition to our team, they can (and I sincerely hope they do) call for either Sam, Jane or myself to accept them into the team. The new member will them become the Understudy of the member who asked for their acceptance, and this recruiting member will become their Mentor. So far so simple, but I should point out that as a Mentor there are certain responsibilities to be taken on.
It is the task of the Mentor to help their Understudy adjust and adapt, in order for them to feel comfortable and welcome with the rest of the team, to help them understand and develop their abilities should the need arise, but most importantly they are also responsible for their Understudy's behaviour. This means that, while it might seem a good idea to recruit someone you've just met, should this person then go on to cause untold havoc and trouble, their Mentor WILL be held accountable (in part at least) and might well face disciplinary action from myself and my Advisors.
However, assuming all goes well and the new recruit settles in well, once we (Sam, Jane and myself) feel that guidance is no longer required, both the Mentor and Understudy shall be re-titled as Members, and will then be free to take on another Understudy (in the case of the former Mentor) or become the Mentor of someone they've previously met and trust (for the new member)
A member may only have ONE Understudy at once, but there will be no limit on the total number they can have over the course of time in the FA.
These changes will come into effect as of Monday the first of April (though I assure you this is NOT an April fool's stunt) and if anyone has any questions or complaints then I advise you to voice them as soon as you receive this notice.
Thank you for your time.
Your official scapegoat,
Veskit
PS. You should all consider yourselves lucky. Sam did suggest we started charging for the drinks in the FA bar. Aren't you glad I didn't keep that idea eh?
