((This is just a little something spawned by the IC mishing yesterday - I haven't planned this or anything, so we'll see how it turns out))
Sam collapsed onto her bed, bone-tired but unable to sleep for thinking so much about last night's events.
She'd only popped into the base to grab a quick drink before heading to the statue, but when Lu arrived and asked if anyone wanted to help with a Crey problem, Sam jumped at the chance. Unsurprisingly so did Iris and Kit. It seems most members of the Alliance have issues with Crey, so the opportunity, when presented, was too good to turn down. Especially as a chance to get revenge for last year's law suit.
They'd trotted off through the base's teleport network and rushed across Crey's Folly to the site of the secret lab, taking down the guards that stood outside in moments, hoping that the element of surprise would remain. Once inside they found the place to be surprisingly well defended. Through a brilliantly coordinated use of Iris' magic, Kit and Lu's dogged tenacity and sheer ass-kicking skill and Sam's own carefully targetted mental assaults, the four of them had taken down the first group almost before they knew the heroes were there. That had felt like a good sign. Perhaps they'd gotten overconfident.
They snuck down a broad, well-lit corridor, round a corner and...
Sam winced as she remembered the terror of those few minutes. No less than three of Crey's Paragon Protectors in their silly spandex and shiny helmets. Plus a horde of other Crey goons, including some of those women the Countess persisted in hiring, who seem to like the thought of doing martial arts in short skirts. Maybe it's just to distract men. It didn't work on the four women, but that didn't matter. The Paragon Protectors did a good enough job without help. All four of the women were soon desperately crawling away on the floor, frantically trying to find the time to either rest for a moment, focus their powers to recover, or use a medi-port patch. The Crey just ignored them, like they were so much useless meat. It was insulting and degrading.
And none of the girls were in a mood to be insulted or degraded.
Minutes later, four angry women proceeded to batter the living daylights out of every Crey employee they came across, with Kit hacking into every computer they could find, looking for the files that Mister Stacey needed. While Sam, the brilliant computer scientist, stood watching, fingers itching to take over.
It all came to a head when they found a storage room, heavily guarded for no apparent reason. Lu and Kit ran in, fists flying, sword flashing. Iris shifted form and stomped into the fray, while Sam stood back and desperately tried to get into the minds of the Crey being fought.
When the last of the Power Tanks was down, Sam skipped to a nearby computer terminal half a step ahead of Kit, siezed the keyboard, plugged in her hack-tool flash drive and began her dance with Crey's security.
Which wasn't up to much, really.
Seconds later her search-worm found it. The file Lu said Mister Stacey wanted. Another flash drive, and the file was copied.
Lu dashed off to deliver the drive to her contact, and Kit, Sam and Iris were all alone in a quiet Crey storage room...
There was only one option, really.
Squeaky mallet fight!
Iris conjured a couple of squeaky inflatible mallets which Kit and Sam proceeded to batter each other with.
Right up until Kit decided to batter the computer, not knowing that for some reason this computer had a direct link to the laboratory's self-destruct...
They ran.
