The television screen flared to life.
"... unconfirmed reports of an explosion at Huntington Technologies' main lab in the city. So far we have been unable to... hold on... we have a reporting crew in position, we're switching over to a live feed. Some viewers may find this distressing."
The image of the orderly news studio cut to far more chaotic scene. People ran in all directions, apparently at random. A fire engine raced into view as the reporter adjusted her microphone.
"Are we on? We're on? Okay. This is Madeleine Carter reporting for KXPN News. I'm standing outside the main lab of Huntington Technologies. As you can see behind me," the camera panned across the scene, "There is no sign of an explosion, but several people have told us that there was a huge flash of light from within one of the buildings here not more than a half-hour ago. I can see a fire crew preparing to enter the building now... Wait... Hang on something's happening..."
A low rumble could be heard, and the view in the camera started to shake with increasing violence.
A brilliant flash of light blanketed the image for a moment, and when it cleared, the camera was focusing on two figures standing on the rooftop of the lab. The operator used the zoom way to quickly and the image blurred for a long moment before the camera could self-correct.
A red-haired female was being held by the neck over the side of the building by a bulky figure in a red armoured suit.
"Get a mike on that guy!" The voice of the reporter could be heard frantically yelling at someone off camera.
Moments later a faint voice could be heard under the other sounds.
"Where is he, Sammy? Where is he? Just tell me where he is, and you walk out of here. Don't, and you leave in a body-bag."
The figure in his grip struggled weakly, and the voice of the reporter could again be heard. "I think... I think that's Samantha Huntington, being held hostage. That man... Who the hell is he? Must be some Villain or another... something's happening."
The armoured man thrust a fist into the female's midriff, and a gasp could be heard from the anchor.
"Bah! Stupid cow. I'll find him myself. And maybe the little purple bint he's so fond of. Sorry, Sammy. This is it for you."
The armoured figure negligently flicked his hand and the female soared through the air in a slow arc that ended with a resounding crash on top of a Mercedes Benz in the parking lot.
The camera followed the arc and the final image before the scene cut back to the studio was a shock of red hair hanging over a limp arm on top of a ruined car...
